WRAPD members wrapped in love during Valentine’s outing
The West Rand Association for Persons with Disabilities held a Valentine's Day-themed lunch thanks to Dros Krugersdorp and Curro Krugersdorp.
Love was most definitely in the air at Dros Krugersdorp on February 14 when close to 70 members of the West Rand Association for Persons with Disabilities (WRAPD) were spoilt to a Valentine’s lunch.
The lunch was a community initiative and collaboration between Dros Krugersdorp, Curro Krugersdorp and the WRAPD. In addition, Curro Krugersdorp assisted with transporting WRAPD members in three buses. The event was of course Valentine’s-themed and people were seen embracing the spirit of love by wearing mostly red and white.
According to WRAPD director Annelene Russouw, this was the first of many initiatives.
The WRAPD was founded in 1947, formerly known as the West Rand Cripple Care Association, as a direct result of the outbreak of the polio epidemic. The association has since evolved and developed catering for people with various physical and mental disabilities.
The association has different centres and homes to cater for people with disabilities in other parts of the West Rand, such as the Sophia Oosthuizen Protective Work Centre.
According to the association’s official website, they cater for 65 multi-disabled adults from different communities such as Roodepoort, Krugersdorp, Munsieville, Davidsonville and Kagiso to name a few.
