Police confirm CIT heist in Chamdor; two guards injured

Two security guards were injured during a cash-in-transit robbery in Chamdor earlier today.

A cash-in-transit (CIT) heist in Chamdor saw at least two security officers injured.

The Krugersdorp News can confirm that at about 10:30 on January 22, police were involved in a high-speed chase that saw four vehicles allegedly attempting to hijack a CIT van in Adcock Street near Leratong Hospital.

Police are currently at the scene investigating.

According to police communications officer Karen du Plessis, a bomb was set off and shots were fired.

“We suspect that at least 10 robbers were involved in the heist and that two of the three security officers protecting the vehicle sustained minor injuries,” Du Plessis added.

No arrests have been confirmed by police at the scene.

No arrests have been made as yet and robbers fled from the scene.
