Cops on a mission to maintain law and order
Police made another 139 arrests in the Mogale City policing precinct during their latest operation.
Police and other law enforcement made their presence felt in the West Rand recently during a multidisciplinary integrated illegal mining operation in Rietvallei Ext 3, Kagiso. Maintaining law and order in specifically the Krugersdorp and Muldersdrift policing precincts was also the order of the day.
According to police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya, the operation commenced at 06:00 and continued until 14:00. Supporting the police in their efforts were members of Gauteng Community Safety, the Gauteng Traffic Police, Crime Prevention Wardens, Correctional Services, Mogale City’s Executive Mayor, Mogale City Traffic Police, local ward councillors, CPF as well as community safety patrollers.
The operation included nine phases namely two roadblocks, two FLASH groups, two crime prevention groups, two illegal mining groups, and one vehicle checkpoint (VCP) with transgressors feeling the full might of the law that saw 139 people behind bars.
Of the 139 arrests made, Vispol members generated 67 arrests. Seven persons were arrested for drug-related offences, seven others for dealing in liquor without a license, four illegal miners, one for possession of a gambling machine, one for contravening the Tobacco Act, and one for contravening the Pharmaceutical, Tobacco Control and Health Regulations Acts. In addition, 46 undocumented persons were also arrested.
Furthermore, detectives made 72 arrests including three for murder, five for armed robbery, 25 for assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, three for house robbery, four for housebreaking and theft, 10 for theft, two for common assault, one for common robbery, six for malicious damage to property, one for pointing a firearm, one for drunken driving, one for possession of drugs, one for possession of stolen property, one for fraud, one for intimidation, one for contravening a protection order and one for reckless and negligent driving. In addition, five arrests were made relating to common assault and domestic violence.
Also, a total amount of 240 460ml of alcohol was confiscated at numerous illegal shebeens.
Traffic officers also made their presence felt by issuing a resounding 41 fines to the value of R40 700 for failure to comply with the Road Traffic Act, rules and regulations.
The operation was a great success as Major General Kekana echoed, “I want to thank you all for your services. Today’s results are pleasing. I’m impressed and want you to keep up the good work.”
All suspects that have been arrested already appeared in the Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court and will be charged accordingly.
