• Duif-meesters aangemoedig om jaareindfunksie by te woon
Lede van die Randfontein Resies Duifklub beplan ‘n bring-en-braai prysuitdelingsaand op 2 Desember. Die spoggerige geleentheid sal by die klubhuis plaasvind wat by die Greenhills Stadion geleë is. Lede en hul gesinne sal dan die geleentheid kry om bietjie saam te kuier en toekennings te ontvang. Die junior-lede sal eerste beloon word gevolg deur die senior-lede. Nadat alle lede toekennings oorhandig is sal die spesiale toekennings uitgedeel word. “Dit gaan ‘n gesellige samesyn wees,” het Belinda Barkhuizen, bemarker vir die klub vertel. Die klub het huidiglik 12 senior-lede en sewe junior-lede wat lang afstand en kortafstand duif wedvlugte uitvoer.

• Church to host fun run for cancer awareness in Toekies
On December 2, the community of Toekomsrus will be attending a run-and-walk event for cancer awareness, youth development, and health education at the Nazarene Church. The event will start at the church situated at 2 Diamond Street, Toekomsrus from 07:00. The fee for entering the challenge is R50 for adults and R20 for children. A distance of 4km or 8km will be completed by either running or walking to the finish line. The event will be filled with colour as attendees throw each other with colour bombs. “The event will assist in spreading awareness of challenges in the community, also empowering the community to know about health issues so they can make responsible decisions,” said organiser Faizel Bhana. The Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) will also attend the event as a means of spreading cancer awareness in the community. Cansa plans to educate the community about cancer causes, the effects of cancer, as well as detection and prevention. Nikita Padayachey, Eunice Seedat, and Lervirn Moses together with the church committee will also assist Faizel in organising the event. Faizel will sponsor the medals for the winners, and the colour dust as well as conduct the marketing for the event. Faizel emphasises that anyone is welcome to join the family event, adding that no person will be excluded if they do not pay.

• A talk on drug abuse
If you missed the first two Africa Back to God substance abuse seminars, there is still one to come. The event is a free event where pastors, current drug users, rehabilitated drug users and families of abusers raise awareness about substance abuse and the problems surrounding this very far-reaching issue. Two seminars were held in October and November in Townlands, Randfontein where almost 100 participants gathered to join in praise and worship and listen to testimonies. The event was held in collaboration with the Department of Social Development, the police, various rehabilitation centres and recoverees. The next event will take place on January 20 next year at 176 Lazar Avenue, Townlands, Randfontein starting at 10:00. • Christmas concert and Xmas market at Garden World
Visit Garden World on December 3 for a magical day of pure entertainment with Stephanie Baartman (Lettie van Diep Waters), Stiaan Bruwer (Henry van Diep Waters) and MC Lizz Meiring (Baby van Diep Waters). The enchanting Garden World Nursery on Beyers Naude Drive in Muldersdrift is the setting for this once-in-a-lifetime event with all proceeds going to the Theatre Benevolent Fund – a registered public benefit organisation, caring for the aged, ill, and destitute in the arts industry. • Pint, Pinot and Pizza Trail
If you like trying out new things, you might want to give the Pint, Pinot and Pizza Trail a go which takes place at 06:30 on November 25. Choose between a 5km, 10km and 15km hike, and make your way to the chill zone which will offer something for the throat, live music and good food. The routes will be a combination of single track, jeep track, maybe a hill or two, and a few open tracks across the farms for those wanting to stretch their legs. • Snake awareness workshop for kids
Join the African Snakebite institution on November 25 from 10:00 to 11:30 for a free snake awareness workshop at Cradle Moon Lakeside Game Lodge. The workshop will start with an introduction to “What’s a reptile?”, an overview of the common venomous snakes of Gauteng, and what to do if a snake is encountered. The session is very educational, and entertaining, and the parents will enjoy it just as much as the kids. • Schools programme offered at the Kloofendal Nature Reserve
The Friends of Kloofendal (FroK) Schools Programme supports teachers by enriching the learning experiences for all grades. Learners are divided into groups of 20 and taken into the Reserve for field interpretation by our FGASA-qualified guides. In case of rain, FroK has an indoor Adventure Programme where, inside the Kloofendal Ecological Centre, participants will be shown specimens from the reserve (each participant can choose what he/ she is interested in) and will be told fascinating stories about each one.
