Mogale City encourages citizens to register this weekend

With the 2024 general elections around the corner, residents of Mogale City are encouraged to get registered.

The highly anticipated 2024 general elections are drawing closer and millions of South Africans are expected to flock to ballot boxes to make their mark.

In preparation for the elections, the Electoral Commission of South Africa will host its first registration weekend on November 18 and 19 to get as many eligible voters registered before the voters’ roll closes. With voter registration made as simple as the following options below, Mogale City encourages residents that are eligible to vote to ensure that they are registered this coming weekend.

In a statement published by the municipality, here are the following ways to get registered to vote:

• Option A: Online registration

Eligible voters including first-time voters are encouraged to register, update details or check their registration status at their convenience online by visiting the IEC website. The online registration platform is available 24/7 – it is quick, easy and convenient.

• Option B: SMS Service

To make sure you are registered to vote send an SMS with your ID number to 32810 (R1 per SMS).

• Option C: My voting station

You can also visit your nearest voting station this weekend from 08:00 until 17:00 to register.

However, to register as a voter, you must:

• Be a South African citizen
• Be at least 16 years or older, and
• Have a South African identity document (ID), either a green ID book, smartcard ID or valid temporary ID certificate.
