Chaos near Kagiso taxi rank – multiple arrests made

Multiple arrests were made as taxi associations, security and police clashed in Kagiso.

Residents of Kagiso were shocked to witness the chaos between taxi drivers, private security personnel, and police unfold this afternoon, November 8.

At about 14:30, the Krugersdorp News received a tip-off from a resident in Kagiso about ongoing violence that took place between taxi drivers, police and a private security firm. The incident occurred on the corner of Sebenzisa Drive and Kagiso Avenue.

When the News arrived on the scene, police were too occupied to speak to the media or provide any immediate details as to what the reasons were behind the chaos. However, one witness who requested to remain anonymous told a News journalist on the scene that the main issue primarily is an ongoing dispute between two well-known taxi associations in Kagiso, namely Krudito and the Munsieville Taxi Association.

The News also witnessed the arrest of at least six people and multiple weapons, including AK-47s were confiscated.
