‘She will touch many lives’ – Monnas about former learner crowned Miss Thailand World
Tharina Botes is a former Monnas learner who is flying the Krugersdorp flag high having recently been crowned Miss Thailand World 2023.
Many residents of Krugersdorp who are familiar with the local beauty queen were absolutely ecstatic to find out that one of their own, Tharina Botes, won the Miss Thailand World 2023 title over the weekend.
Tharina is a young model who went to Hoërskool Monument having matriculated there in 2015. She was born to shine on the stage, as she has participated in several beauty contests representing South Africa at Miss International 2016. Furthermore, she made the Top 12 at Miss South Africa 2018, Top 10 at Miss Grand Thailand 2019, and was the first runner-up at Miss Universe Thailand 2021.
In 2015, she became the first South African in 15 years to take part in the Miss International beauty pageant. She holds a bachelor’s degree in commerce and economics from the University of South Africa and was born to a South African father and a Thai mother. She is also an ambassador for the Food Rescue Foundation Scholars of Sustenance (SOS), which redistributes surplus food to vulnerable communities.
According to Hoërskool Monument spokesperson Belinda Du Toit, other initiatives Tharina is part of include a project called Good Guardians.
The project puts food on the table for poor families and offers scholarships to children who can not afford education.
Tharina was modelling for four years before making her breakthrough and during this time, she won numerous titles including Miss Gauteng, Miss Queen of South Africa and Miss Rand Show 2015.
“We are ecstatic and extremely proud about what Tharina has achieved. Her teachers and fellow learners remember her as a formidable, friendly, well-liked person and energetic cheerleader during her time with us. We wish Tharina all the best in her time as Miss Thai World and believe that she will touch many lives,” Belinda said proudly.
