Eskom to rotate Stage 3 and 4 until Wednesday

Eskom encourages members of the public to be patient as they continue with planned maintenance.

Eskom appeals to the public to use electricity sparingly as load-shedding schedules will be rotated. Stage 3 load-shedding will be implemented from 05:00 until 16:00 on Monday.

Eskom has confirmed in a press statement that breakdowns are currently at 16 646MW of generating capacity while the capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 5 107MW. Over 24 hours, no power is being imported from Cahora Bassa due to planned maintenance. This is expected to return to normal levels this morning.

In the same period, a generating unit at Tutuka Power Station was taken offline for repairs and a generating unit each at Duvha, Kendal, Kriel, and two generating units at Arnot power stations were returned to service.

The delay reason for the increased rolling blackouts is due to the Hendrina, Kendal, Matimba, and Matla power stations contributing to the current capacity constraints.

Eskom teams are working tirelessly to return these generating units to service.

Eskom’s load forecast for the evening peak demand is 25 885MW.

“We appeal to the members of the public to continue reducing demand by switching off non-essential appliances. Eskom appeals to members of the public to use electricity sparingly and efficiently, including switching off geysers and pool pumps from 17:00 to 21:00, as this lowers the demand and helps in alleviating the pressure on the power system and contributes to lower stages of load-shedding,” read a statement from the power utility.

Eskom will provide updates should any changes occur.

The load-shedding schedule for the week. The schedule, however, is subject to change.
