OPINION: What if Jesus was sitting at your table?

'We often get so entangled in our daily demands that we forget that God placed us in our homes, workplace, and community for a reason' – pastor.

Kyle Tolman, Cross Connect Community Outreach (CCCO) CEO and pastor writes:

We are prone to rely on our strength to get things done. We believe we can do anything. We push our bodies to meet daily demands, and not realising pursuing these tasks is our strength leads to burnout and mental distress.

In the last few weeks, I have been sitting in various meetings with people discussing various topics and concerns about what is going on in people’s lives, their communities, and the world in general.

When my wife bathes our son in the evenings, I usually clean up and do the dishes in the kitchen.

This mundane task has sparked new moments of enlightenment. This has become a space where I reflect on what happened during my day and a time when I can speak to God about my experiences.

During one of the moments last week, this question dawned upon me:

What would happen if we knew that Jesus was sitting at the table with us during a meeting, listening to our conversation with others, worrying about the problem or the uncertainties of tomorrow?

Would we act differently? Would we say something else?

Absolutely! We would have bold confidence knowing that our Father is with us. We would know that we don’t have to rely on our strength but can depend on the Holy Spirit to guide and help us. We will allow the Holy Spirit to use our mouths, ears, and hands.

We often get so entangled in our daily demands that we forget that God placed us in our homes, workplace, and community for a reason.

Becoming more aware of this is the first step. Start by taking a physical reminder with you. Something small that would prompt you to remember that God is with you. It could be a small pebble or anything else. As you remember, ask the Holy Spirit at that moment to guide you, help you, or if you need to say anything.

I pray that you will grow closer to God and know that He wants to be actively involved in every moment of your life.
