Cable thief sentenced to 10 years

A cable thief was recently brought to book and sentenced to 10 years for the theft of essential infrastructure.

Siyavuya Myieki, 31, from Krugersdorp was recently sentenced to 10 years imprisonment of which four years were suspended for five years after he was found guilty of theft of essential infrastructure.

Krugersdorp Police spokesperson Captain Raymond Sebonyane said the incident happened at Luipaard Street next to the Krugersdorp Correction Services on Thursday, January 20, 2022.

“Early that morning, police received a complaint about a man busy cutting a cable with a hand saw. Police arrived on the scene and the man could not answer for his actions. He was then apprehended and a case of theft was opened. The man was detained at Krugersdorp police station.”

The case was then investigated by Detective Sergeant Nondumo Malgas who made sure the state got a successful conviction.

Krugersdorp Police Station Commander Brigadier Happy Xaba applauded the police for a job well done following the sentencing.
