Six years jail time or R3 000 fine: Thief gets to pick and choose

A man in his mid-30s had to choose between a six-year prison sentence of R3K fine for being in possession of a police cap.

A 35-year-old man, Tshepo Dube from Munsieville, was sentenced to six years imprisonment or a R3 000 fine for being in possession of presumably stolen property in the Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court recently.

Krugersdorp Police spokesperson Captain Raymond Sebonyane said at about 07:30 on July 18, 2021, Colonel Senne Mogotlane was on crime prevention duty in and around the Krugersdorp area.

“At Kobie Street, he stopped and searched an unknown man. The police cap was found in the possession of the man and he could not explain how he got the cap. He was then detained at the Krugersdorp police station.”

The case docket was investigated by Detective Sergeant Mapula Ndlovu who made sure that the state got a successful conviction.

Krugersdorp Police Station Commander Brigadier Happy Xaba applauded the police for a job well done following the sentencing.
