WATCH: Parts of CIT van found in resident’s pool after heist
National police provide more information after the vicious CIT heist.
Police say they have launched a manhunt for those responsible for the latest cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery to hit Krugersdorp.
Brigadier Athlenda Mathe from the national police revealed the CIT crew were travelling with an undisclosed amount of money having just done a pick up at a casino in Fourways before they were eventually targeted on the R28 in the Chancliff area on Friday evening, February 17.

“On their way to a depot, a white Mercedes-Benz C-Class [travelling in front of them] started to drive slowly while another white Mercedes-Benz C-Class came from behind at a high speed and suddenly rammed the cash van.”
Brigadier Mathe said the driver then tried to drive away but the van came to a standstill.
“About seven suspects armed with rifles instructed the security guards to get out of the vehicle. The security guards were forced out.”

The robbers then bombed the cash van twice and left the scene in a white and a silver Mercedes-Benz.
The back door of the cash van was blown off with such force that it landed in a resident’s swimming pool and a window of a house nearby was also blown out.
“They [criminals] also set the Mercedes-Benz [used to ram the cash van] alight before they fled the scene.”
Brigadier Mathe added that several shots were fired but luckily no one was injured.
The case has since been referred to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI).
In the meantime, a video was shared with the News showing what happened on the ground.
