Edward has his sights on gold at the World Monologue Games

"At the Globals, I'll be performing alongside the world's best actors in the hopes of winning a bronze, silver, or gold medal for South Africa. I can hardly wait!"

Edward Harding, a grade 5 learner at Laerskool Muldersdrif, has advanced to the Global Finals of World Monologue Games, the world’s largest acting showcase featuring performers from over a hundred countries.

“I was overjoyed when my name was called as one of the winners,” Edward said. “At the Globals, I’ll be performing alongside the world’s best actors in the hopes of winning a bronze, silver, or gold medal for South Africa. I can hardly wait!”

To determine which performers advanced to the finals series, industry professionals from around the world weighed in, including renowned actors, film directors, and heads of international acting schools. This year’s qualifiers and regional live stream finals have already attracted nearly a 100 000 viewers.

Pete Malicki, the event’s founder, is overjoyed to see the World Monologue Games grow in size and scope each year.

“What I love most about the games is seeing incredible performers from all over the world come together in one event,” he says.

“More than half of the world’s countries have taken part, but I won’t be satisfied until we get our first submission from Antarctica!”

The Games has seen thousands of performers register since its inception during the 2020 lockdown. Edward is one of only 90 competitors across six categories, worldwide, to have won a spot in the Global Finals.

“The title of the monologue I’m performing is ‘My Little Accident’. It’s all about me going for a joy ride in my father’s car, only I caused a bit of havoc because my legs aren’t long enough to reach the pedals. I told the officer that I knew I could drive the car because I am good at it, but some crazy kids got in the way and I crashed into the wall. Competing on the international stage is a dream come true for me, and I am very excited to share my work!

“This opportunity will also allow me to gain more experience in preparation for my trip to the World Championships in Los Angeles in 2023 to represent Team South Africa in acting, modelling, and vocals. I will be starting a BackaBuddy campaign to try and raise funds towards making the trip a reality,” concluded Edward.

The World Monologue Games Global Finals will be live streamed on November 18, 19, 25 and 26. You can see Edward in the Tigers Category on Friday, November 18.
