National Police Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Robert Netshiunda told the News on Tuesday morning (November 8) that they are looking for a large group of suspects following the CIT robbery that took place at about 19:00 on the corner of Barratt Road and Louis Friedman Street.

He explained that reports indicated that the armored cash truck was travelling west-bound along Barratt Road when they were allegedly approached by the suspects who started shooting at them with automatic rifles until the cash truck came to a standstill.

“Three K9 officers who were in the vicinity responded to the scene and a shootout ensued.”

The suspects then allegedly fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money. Fortunately no one was injured and K9 members and other crime scene experts were on scene.

“Two empty money boxes were found lying along Battery and Rory Streets in Wentworth Park. Preliminary investigations have suggested that suspects failed to open the safes during the robbery.”

The police is asking anyone with information to please contact their nearest police station or the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111.
