Water saving measures … it just never ends!

Consumers are requested to adopt water-saving measures as high temperatures are putting a severe strain on Rand Water's distribution network.

While the town is already faced with its own water-supply interruptions due to load-shedding, Rand Water is concerned about the significant increase of water consumption.

It supplies water to parts of Gauteng, Mpumalanga, North West and the Free State.

“Rand Water urges consumers to use water sparingly as high temperatures are putting a severe strain on its distribution network. The continued high consumption may lead to serious water shortages in its areas of supply. Rand Water is working hard to meet customers’ water demands in its areas of supply,” said Rand Water spokesperson Makenosi Maroo.

“During this period, water demand always outstrips supply as some consumers do not adhere to water-saving practices. Consumers are requested to adopt water-savings measures.”

Some water-saving measures:

• Do not wash cars using a hosepipe. Use a bucket instead.

• Do not water gardens during the day; but do so between sunset and sunrise.

• Do not wash pavements with hose pipes. Sweep them with a broom instead.

• Turn off taps while brushing teeth.

• Fix leaking taps immediately.

• Do not open taps fully and turn them off after use.

• Do not leave taps running while rinsing hair or shaving.

• Use sprinkler system, if necessary, between sunset and sunrise.

• Cover swimming pools to prevent quick water evaporation.

• Install low flow restrictions on taps at home.

• Use cold water to wash hands, not hot water.

• Re-use bath water for watering flower beds and lawns.

• Use water-efficient dishwashers.
