Police celebrate excellence in the district

The West Rand District Police held their excellence awards at Usambara Lodge on Friday, September 2 to honour the members of the West Rand District for various achievements.

Sergeant Gloria Maswanganye explained that the West Rand District police commissioner, Major General Fred Kekana dedicated the awards to all the police officials and their community policing forum partners who have gone beyond the call of duty to serve their communities.

“To make the occasion more meaningful and colourful the commissioner was joined by the Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Corporate Service, Major General Patricia Rampota, Brigadier Theledi Gopane of the Lenasia SAPS, Brigadier Maota from the Jeppe SAPS, Executive Mayor of the West Rand District Municipality Hullet Hild, Mogale City Local Muicipality Executive Mayor Councillor Tyrone Gray, Calvin Ngwenya from the Office of the MEC for Community Safety, Superintendent Soso Ngidi from Mogale City Traffic, West Rand CPF District board chairperson Lloyd Khumalo, CPF executive committees within the district and station commanders including other senior officers from the 13 district police stations.”

In his keynote address Kekana highlighted how crime affected everyone and that everyone had a role to play to combat it. He thanked the mayors for always availing themselves even during the recent zama zama incident that drew attention, even from abroad.

He extended his gratitude to the CPF for being available, assisting in mobilising the community and helping the police to stay strong when they are serving the community.

• Employee with disability: Moeketsi (level 5-7 Telkom operator)
• Detective Employee of the Year (level 8-12): Colonel Maphanga
• Detective Group of the Year: Carletonville police
• Vispol Group of the Year: Hekpoort police
• CIS Group of the Year: District CIS
• Best station of the Year: Khutsong police
• Cleanest station of the Year: Fochville police

District Commissioner’s special awards:
• Woman of the Year: Sergeant Tshifularo of the Krugersdorp police
• GBV coordinator of the Year: Sergeant Sithole from the Kagiso police
• CPF of the Year: Kagiso CPF
• CPF Patroller of the Year: Mr Lefty Motaung from Bekkersdal
