Government app allows for users to screen themselves for Covid-19

The Mphilo app is also linked to the Gauteng Department of Health digital platforms, ensuring that users have access to credible and verified information on Covid-19

The Gauteng Department of Health has added a Covid-19 feature to its Mpilo Healthcare mobile app.

In addition to the various features in this app such as the ability to request an ambulance, users can also screen themselves for Covid-19.

The app allows for users to self screen for Covid-19 by completing an easy questonaire. Depending on how the user answers, the app will alert a team of contact tracers to follow up with the user should it be deemed necessary.

The following is an example of the questions users can expect:

  • Have you recently had any of the following symptoms? Cough, difficulty breathing or sore throat from an unexplained cause?
  • Have you travelled to any country currently experiencing novel coronavirus infections within the past 14 days?
  • Have you had contact with any person who has travelled to any country currently experiencing novel coronavirus infections within the past 14 days?
  • Have you been in contact with someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the past 14 days?
  • Are you a health worker (this includes any person working in a health facility) who may have come into contact with a confirmed or possible case of COVID-19 in the past 14 days?
