Man drowns while taking a swim in Monument Dam

The drowning has been turned into a body recovery.

Sunday afternoon turned into a tragic scene with rescue divers looking for the body of a man who presumably drowned while taking a swim in Monument Dam at Pretorius Park near Key West Shopping Centre.

Just after 2.30pm on Sunday, 22 December, Netcare 911 responded to reports of a drowning.

Reports from the scene indicate that the man had been swimming in the dam when he became submerged.

The media report stated that bystanders who witnessed the event rushed to his rescue, however he could not be found.

All relevant authorities were called to the scene where a search was conducted but sadly no person was found.

Circumstances leading up to the drowning will be investigated by the the local police who were also on scene.

Another similar scene played out last week.

On Thursday, 19 December, just after 7pm, Netcare 911 responded to reports of an unresponsive patient off Muldersdrift Road in Nooitgedacht.

When medics arrived on scene the crew were directed to the Krokodil River a short distance from the road.

Upon assessment the patient, also an adult male, was sadly found deceased.

Circumstances leading up to the man’s death are not known however all necessary authorities were on scene.
