[PHOTOS] Planting trees to teach the children
A local councillor took it upon himself to plant 15 trees and teach children all about how important nature is.
Ward councillor Whitey Moleba is doing his best to clean up and make Boltonia a better-looking place for its citizens.
His latest project was something close to his heart – he wanted to improve the environment while teaching young children all about the importance of planting trees and taking care of nature.
On Wednesday, 16 October, that’s exactly what Whitey did by going to seven pre-schools in Boltonia, Krugersdorp West and West Village. He planted trees at Jollige Jakkers, Tjokkertjies vir Jesus, Kleine Pikkewyne, Creative Todds, Daffodils Daycare, Tiny Tigers and Honeyfield Daycare while the many children looked on.
“They help keep our air clean; we breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide. Trees breathe in carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen. They provide shelter and food, and heal us. They help prevent soil erosion, provide wood and many more things,” Whitey explained as he lowered the first tree into the ground. The children listened attentively, and were all too happy to help fill up the holes.
He ended up planting all 15 trees that were donated by the Mogale City Department of Integrated Environmental Management.
