The fatal flaw in religion

Pastor Gerrit Mes; from the pulpit.

I have read the Bible through numerous times, and I have studied the Holy Scriptures.

Is there a fatal flaw, some great contradiction in it? In my humble opinion, the Bible is a unique and amazing book. It still stands after centuries of attack on its spirit and content.

They burnt the book, they still ban it in some parts of the world. The followers of the book have been persecuted and murdered. Yet, the book is still read by billions around the world.

But there is one fatal flaw – not in the book or its teaching – but in its application. Some Christians try to use the teachings in the book for health, wealth and happiness. The book was never intended to do away with Goliath, but to overcome him.

Yes, I can quote verses to try to force God’s hand to heal me, to bless me and to remove my enemies.

If Jesus had applied the Scriptures like some 21st century Christians, He would never have been arrested, put on trial or crucified. No, Jesus said these famous words, “Thy will be done, not mine.”

The Bible was never meant to be a book of great escapes. It was given to us as an illustration of great victories. All our battles create the perfect stage for God to showcase His power. Never use God as a magic genie to remove your challenges. Face your giants with God at your side.
