I recently popped into a fast-food outlet to get a quick bite. As I got to the front of the queue, someone next to me said to the lady taking the order, “Be nice to this man, do you know who he is?”
Without missing a beat, the lady looked at me, her face filled with a huge smile and she said, “I know who he is, I also read the Krugersdorp News.” We both blushed a bit and continued our transaction.
As I sat enjoying my hamburger, I thought of my face, and more importantly, who I represent. Through my position as a Pastor and a member of this community, people know me. If I say or do something inappropriate, people will not only be disappointed in me but also in the One that I so publicly represent.
Your face may not be as well-known as mine, but people are watching you. Your family, friends and acquaintances are watching. What you say and do can have the power to draw people to or repulse them from the One you represent.
We should, in public and private, make every effort to bring glory to God, not only in church on Sundays but seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
It may be that you are the only Bible some people read. Jesus once said, “If you have seen me, you have seen the Father.”
Yes, watch yourself, others are watching you.
