Ambulance crew hijacked in Kagiso after false callout

It became clear that the case was logged for the sole purpose of luring the paramedics into an ambush.

Gauteng EMS Emergency communication centre received a call to attend to an unresponsive child in Kagiso on Wednesday, 19 September at about 10pm.

The paramedics were told that a guide would wait for them at a nearby church.

When they arrived, they were hijacked by three men who robbed the crew of their belongings as well as essential medical equipment from the ambulance.

It became clear that the case was logged for the sole purpose of luring the paramedics into an ambush with the intention of robbing them and the ambulance.

“This cowardly act not only robbed the community of a scarce resource, but will also add to our response times in real emergencies as additional screening measures will be put in place until such time that our personnel safety can be guaranteed by the community at large,” a statement by Gauteng EMS reads.

“We appeal to anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the police or Gauteng EMS immediately on 011 564 2211.”
