Mild, medium or hot

Pastor Gerrit Mes; from the pulpit.

My wife and I love a good curry and rice.

Not a drop of Indian blood in us but curry is definitely a favourite meal. It is so interesting that when you order curry, the waiter often asks, mild, medium or hot. For us, a good curry is not a stew. It has to be pretty hot. A good indication of a good curry is often a runny nose, lips a bit hot and maybe even a bit of perspiration. If you love curry, just reading this may cause a saliva rush.

I think when it comes to love, the same scenario is possible. I know a lot of people who are in love. For some it’s a mild love, a medium love, and a few lucky ones have love that is best described as hot.

I wonder if God ever looks into your church service on a Sunday morning. I wonder if he sees people who are, as Christians, mild, medium or hot.

You may think that this is a silly thought, surely all Christians are the same. Apparently not true. Revelations 3:16, “I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either the one or the other.”

With curry you can have mild, medium or hot. With love you may have mild, medium or hot. But as a Christian, it seems as if God prefers hot. Are you mild, medium or hot?
