Are you ready to die?

Pastor Gerrit Mes; from the pulpit.

We are so good at planning and preparing for the future. We plan for our retirement, possible illnesses and even annual holidays. And our monthly budgets show how concerned we are about the future.

But are you ready to die?

So often this is one area in our lives that we try not to think about. A week ago, we had three funerals. One for a person aged 83, another for a 41-year-old and finally a young man of just 19 years of age.

Death is not reserved for old people. You or I could be next. Some deaths are anticipated and expected due to illness., but many times death is unexpected and family and friends are not prepared for it.

The Bible says only fools never think about death. It is the one thing none of us can avoid.

Many people fear death, the process and the uncertainty of what is on the other side. I find myself thinking of death quite often because of my work, and I ask myself whether I am ready to die.

The honest answer is I am not really ready.

But I do my best to live each day having peace with God, family and friends. Somehow I feel if we are ready to die, we are more ready to live. God bless.
