The mother of the boy who was wearing the now infamous green “Coolest Monkey in the Jungle” sweat top from the clothing store H&M said exactly that … “just get over it!”.

This after celebrities and of course, South Africa’s number one trouble-making party, the EFF voiced (and showed) their dissatisfaction with the garment and the message it was relaying to the public.

I must say, I do agree with the mother and I also do not condone what happened at malls across Gauteng.

Why was is necessary to take such extreme action? H&M did apologise and also removed the garment from the stores. Is that not enough? Why does everything need to be sorted out with mayhem and violence?

By becoming violent and lashing out you are becoming part of the problem and not the solution.

The comments made in numerous Facebook posts are nothing short of ridiculous and somewhat hilarious. I have not seen a single comment in which someone did not make fun of the situation or where someone applauded the actions of the EFF members.

Was that what you were trying to achieve? If not, then you failed at your attempt to school the unschooled.

The only thing you did manage to achieve is for people to lose their jobs. Well done!

If we cannot forgive and move on, where does it leave the rest of us? How do we teach today’s youth to deal with tomorrow’s conflict?

As we try to pick up the pieces, perhaps we should also take some time to think?

Until next week, take care, Krugersdorp.
