2000 Year Old Chain

Pastor Gerrit Mes; from the pulpit.

Google is amazing. Recently, as I surfed the internet, I realised how important a track record is. Many companies pride themselves on their history. ‘Established in 1945’ or ‘Established in 1897’. Somehow it seems that we feel safer dealing with a company that is not a fly-by-night. Krugersdorp High School, my old school, has been around for more than a hundred years. The church I am part of is also over a hundred years old.

But then a thought struck me. Although my parents told me about God, there is a direct link between me and Jesus. Yes, an unbroken chain of 2 000 years. Yes, for that length of time, the story of Jesus has been passed from person to person until it reached me.

If one person in the chain hadn’t continued the story, I may never have heard the good news of God’s love. Your family told you, someone told them, and someone told them. 2 000 years – unbroken.

Suddenly I realised what an important link I am in the chain. If I don’t pass the story on, this amazing chain will be broken. Luke 19:40 says, “I tell you that if they keep quiet, the stones themselves will start shouting.”

2 000 years is amazing, so don’t you keep quiet.
