West Village – the forgotten suburb

Chris Schoonwinkel from West Village writes:

Many voters, including myself, voted for change in this city and we hope that we will see change as promised.

We hope that change will also reach the forgotten ‘underbelly’ of Mogale, namely West Village. Allow me to mention some gross inequalities between some of the so-called ‘rich’ suburbs and West Village.

There are many rubbish bins around the Town Hall and they are serviced regularly but under-utilised – West Village does not have one rubbish bin and rubbish is strewn all over as result.

All the suburbs in Mogale that I know of have streetlights – West Village has one functioning streetlight.

While road maintenance takes place in Noordheuwel and Rangeview on a regular basis, just about nothing is done in West Village.

Please don’t tell me that West Village is a special case – we pay rates and taxes just like all the other people in Mogale.

We sincerely hope that we will see change in West Village, Madam Mayor, and that our many emails, telephone calls, letters and visits that have gone unanswered in the past will be responded to.
