Editor's note

Happy Women’s Month!

Being a woman is not just liberating ... it's exciting, and I feel really fortunate to be a woman.

Being a woman in 2016 can be very rewarding and at the same time very frightening.

The challenges women face in 2016 are far greater that the challenges women faced 50 years ago.

Now more than ever, the role of the everyday women differs vastly from that of the average woman of the 80s or 90s. Women are raising their children alone, and they’re the sole breadwinners in thousands of households in Krugersdorp. But instead of harping on their misfortune and difficulties, these women are embracing their independence.

Women are empowering themselves with knowledge; they are rising above their circumstances, and becoming pioneers and community leaders. Today’s woman is setting the benchmark for tomorrow’s future leaders and I for one salute each and every woman in her struggle.

The days when women were considered weak and futile individuals are long gone.

To my fellow female colleagues, to my female friends and to the strong and admirable women in my family, happy Women’s Day.

You are my backbone, my support structure and my inspiration for wanting to make a difference.
