After serving two terms over a period of 10 years, Executive Mayor Koketso Calvin Seerane will be leaving Mogale City.
During his term as Mayor, Councillor Seerane received two clean audits, while still providing 34 wards with the services that they required.
Another one of his achievements was reducing water loss due to old pipes by two per cent. The pipes currently running through the town are the same pipes that were laid during the establishment of Krugersdorp. Unfortunately, due to budgetary constraints, the replacing of these old pipes is not taking place as quickly as Councillor Seerane would have liked.
“If I could, I would replace the entire 100 kilometre pipeline in one go. But unfortunately the budget is never going to be enough to do everything at once.”
He said that there were lots of other things he would have liked to do, but, due to money and time constraints, he was unable to get them done.
“When you look around and see all the informal settlements, you realise that there is still a lot of work to be done. In order to provide everyone with basic services, you need to give them a house,” he said.
He is confident that his successor will be able to continue to build and improve Mogale City, and that his modest contribution to the city will be remembered moving forward.
“It has been a roller-coaster ride – exhilarating, complete with absolute highs and hitting rock bottom. I am happy leaving, knowing that I have done my best in the last 10 years,” he added.
So what is next for Councillor Seerane? He hopes to enjoy some time off in order to rediscover himself and spend some quality time with his family.
