Police issue hijacking warning

There is an increase in hijackings in Kagiso and police want you to stay safe.

Kagiso Police have issued a hijacking warning to the community.

This comes after a significantly higher number of hijackings were reported during the period of May to June this year.

Victims have been hijacked and dropped off in Braamfischerville near Dobsonville, and two spots in the Tshepisong township, namely the open space next to the cheese factory, and behind the new filling station. The vehicles that are hijacked most often are VW Polos, and Hyundai H100 and Toyota Hilux bakkies. However, the police warn residents to be vigilant no matter what vehicle they are driving.

“Drivers should be more cautious than ever especially when driving along Impala Road, the Randfontein road (R28) and in the Chamdor industrial area,” police spokesperson Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya said.

Drivers are advised to:

• Always be alert and vigilant when entering or leaving their homes

• Report suspicious-looking people driving in groups of two or more

• Refrain from parking on pavements and sitting inside cars at night

• Refrain from parking in open spaces and parks at night

“The police are working on ways and means to stop the incidents of hijackings in the area, but we will always encourage members of the public to assist by being vigilant and cautious,” Sibiya told the News.
