KHS now uses online learning system

The school is one of the few on the West Rand that have implemented the technology.

Much has changed, and more is to follow, as the principal of Krugersdorp High School, Ivan Bailey, has introduced an online learning system at the historical school.

Bailey has overseen the building of new classrooms, the upgrading of facilities, the establishment of the Past Students’ Foundation and the installation of interactive white boards since his appointment in 2008. And on 1 February this year, 1 400 users were logged onto Moodle, an online learning system.

“It changed the face of education within KHS’ classrooms. Educators have not been replaced by technology, but use it as an innovative tool that has been incorporated into their teaching methods to ensure effective teaching and learning that caters for the more visual, modern, tech-savvy teenager. The pupils are thus given an opportunity to interact with technology on a daily basis,” Lauren Jooste-Coetsee, the school’s Marketing Director said.

Krugersdorp High School is currently one of only three high schools on the West Rand to have introduced this level of technology in the classroom, she said.

Bailey’s biggest concern is to ensure that the pupils get the best education possible to enable them to either be accepted at the tertiary institution of their choice, or join a workforce that will ensure the best opportunities.

The school attempts to employ highly qualified academic personnel to ensure that the pupils are given the best academic tuition.

Since he was welcomed as the school’s new principal in 2008, Ivan Bailey has also appointed an Estate Manager, a marketing department, a number of counsellors and a social worker.
