X Marks the spot?

This past weekend, I spent some time with my in-laws.

Because I work at the local newspaper, frequent discussions of municipal issues always come up. Not that I consider myself to be an expert with municipal issues, but I presume they ask me about it because I deal with it practically on a daily basis.

Issues like the pruning of trees on the pavements, faulty municipal accounts and lack of overall services always come up in our family discussions.

However, I can’t help but wonder if things will be changing soon since the municipal elections are around the corner? Will Krugersdorpers be seeing a change in the municipality’s attitude any time soon?

Small things which used to irritate residents will now become redundant because the municipality might be ‘fixing’ it without anyone noticing?

Perhaps they are … perhaps they are not.

Speculating about it makes it even more frustrating!

Nonetheless, being a journalist in this community does not mean we have a municipal hotline which always gets answered.

It just means that when you come to us for help, all we can do is write about it and hope that it sparks some sort of response.

Remember Krugersdorp, we also live in your community and we also want to know what is going on.

Until next week, take care Krugersdorp.
