Six armed robbers steal R195 petrol

A service station was robbed by six armed robbers in a silver Opel, possibly the same six who shot and hijacked a man in Wentworth Park.

At 4am yesterday (22 September) morning, two petrol attendants at the service station on Main Reef Road, were held up by six armed robbers.

“They stopped at one of the filling bays and asked for R195 petrol and that they would pay with a card,” one of the attendants told the News.

According to him, a new Audi was parked close by as if to keep an eye on them.

After he filled the silver Opel’s tank, the driver gave him a card to pay with. The transaction continued to get declined.

“He then showed me the gun he had in his hand.”

The driver, along with five other men then climbed out of the car, each with a pistol in hand.

“That is when my colleague pressed the panic button.”

Upon hearing the panic button, they jumped back into the car and fled. Later, police arrived at the scene to take the attendants’ statements.

“They told me that the vehicle was stolen.”

The News also reported on a hijacking of a silver Opel the previous night at around 8pm, leaving the driver dead next to the road.

A 52-year-old man was left for dead after his vehicle was hijacked in Sivewright Street. After the local Community Policing Forum’s First Aid Responders arrived, they tended to the gunshot wounded man who shortly died thereafter.

Krugersdorp police’s spokesperson Sergeant Tshepiso Mashale said in a statement it is alleged that a fight ensued between the six suspects and the victim.

“The victim was shot and the suspects drove away with his vehicle.”
