Cousin arrested for attempted rape

A 32-year-old suspect was arrested by Kagiso police in Swanieville in Kagiso for attempted rape of a family member.

The complainant alleges that she was at home with her two siblings aged nine and one when the suspect arrived.

The suspect allegedly came looking for the complainant’s mother who was not home and insisted on staying.

He soon then complained of feeling cold and asked for something warm when the complainant gave him a blanket.

After the electricity went off a few minutes later the complainant decided to go to bed with her siblings.

“While asleep she felt someone touching her. Out of shock she jumped out of bed and grabbed her cell phone which she then used to light the room. The complainant phoned her boyfriend after she noticed the naked suspect on her bed. She then ran outside and the suspect managed to flee the scene,” Kagiso police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya, said.

The matter was reported to the police and the suspect was then searched and arrested the following day.

The suspect is due to appear briefly in court.
