Second body discovered in a week

The yellowish dust covering the body suggest the deceased may have been involved in illegal mining activities.

The second body in less than a week was discovered on a sidewalk in Krugersdorp this morning.

Mogale City’s traffic police were called to Luipaard Street opposite the Krugersdorp Correctional Services where the body of a man was discovered next to a lamp post on the sidewalk.

The yellowish dust covering the body suggested the deceased died of injuries obtained in the practice of illegal mining.

It is believed the deceased may have been part of the illegal miners who are known as the Zama-Zamas and got injured from soil collapsing on top of him.

Rumours suggest the body was then removed from the illegal mine area and dumped on the sidewalk in order to cover up the illegal operations.

Krugersdorp police spokesperson Sergeant Tshepiso Mashale said in a statement the body is that of a 20 to 25 year old man.

“The cause of death is unknown and will be determined during post mortem procedure. The deceased was wearing a red jacked and black trousers. An inquest docket was opened for further investigation and no arrests have been made.”
