It is believed the constable tried to steal medication from the pharmaceutical department of the Shoprite store in Randfontein and shortly thereafter was arrested by local police.

She has since the arrest been released on bail.

SAPS Provincial Spokesperson, Captain Doniah Mothutsane said The Gauteng Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service, Lieutenant General L Mothiba, and the entire management are concerned about the escalation of members’ misconducts following the arrest of yet another police member yesterday at Village Square Mall in Randfontein for shoplifting.

“A 29-year-old constable stationed at Krugersdorp was released on bail and will appear in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court today facing charges of shoplifting. The management will not tolerate these conducts as it hinders the reputation of the SAPS,” the statement by Mothutsane reads.

The constable is also due to reappear in court on 25 September for the first shoplifting incident.
