I was shocked to my core after reading about two Krugersdorp police officers being caught red-handed for shoplifting.

First of all, I was shocked that police officers, in uniform, are shoplifting and secondly I was even more shocked after learning that I know who one of the officers are.

In my early journalism days here at the News, I worked closely with one of the officers assigned to one of the policing sectors in town.

Whenever I would attend to a scene or visit the police station, I would bump into her.

I always used to think, “Wow, what a dedicated female officer, she is truly an inspiration.”

Now, I really do not know what to think.

I am trying to stay objective and also trying not to judge this person, but one thing I am, is disappointed.

All I can do is pray for these women and hope they realise the error of their ways.

We have all made mistakes in the past which we regret and are embarrassed of.

All I suppose we can do is learn from it, the question is, will these officers learn from it?
