Woman who dies in crash identified

The driver of the vehicle that skipped the stop street was allegedly under the influence at the time of the accident.

Disturbing details came to light about the accident that claimed the life of a 54-year-old woman after a driver skipped a stop street.

The woman who died on Sunday 16 August has been identified as Marina Rykaart, a well-known housewife of the Krugersdorp West area.

It is believed the driver of the VW Polo, with four occupants, was under the influence when he ignored the stop street and crashed into Marina’s vehicle at the Van Riebeeck and Blommenstein Street intersection.

The impact caused Marina to be flung through the window of her vehicle where after she landed near a street pole.

She was pronounced dead on the scene and her body was taken to the state mortuary.

Marina was described as a loving and caring woman by a close family member.

Foul play is suspected by the occupants of the Polo and three of the four occupants were arrested on the day.

A case of murder has been opened and police are currently investigating the matter.

The family would like to thank every person that has helped out on that fateful Sunday morning and up until now.

Funeral arrangements are underway and will provisionally be held on Friday, 21 August at 1pm.

Marina leaves behind her husband, Michael and their son, Rudi.
