Airborne vehicle takes out traffic light

An accident caused one vehicle to become airborne and take out a traffic light.

During a busy Saturday night, 25 July, members of Sectors 3, 4 and 5’s Community Policing Forum responded to a call-out of an accident where a man was still stuck in his vehicle.

The accident happened at the Voortrekker Road and Van Oord Street intersection.

The members arrived at the scene where they found two badly smashed vehicles and one of the traffic lights damaged from the accident.

It is believe that one of the vehicles collided with another leaving a path of destruction. Due to the impact of the accident, one of the vehicles allegedly became airborne.

One vehicle ended up on the opposite side of the road with the driver still stuck inside.

Mogale City‘s Emergency Services and Netcare 911 rushed to the scene to free the driver from the vehicle with the Jaws of Life.

The CPF assisted in controlling the late night traffic along with preparing for the helicopter to land in the parking lot of the Anthos Shopping Center.

The driver, believed to be in a critical state, was transported to Millpark Hospital for further medical treatment.

Patrollers were on the scene until 2.45am after the road was finally cleared.

Although the cause of the accident is yet unknown, rumours suggest that speed may have played a big roll.
