Man flees after hit-and-run incident

A man fled the scene of a hit-and-run accident which left one person in a critical state.

A hit-and-run incident left one person in a critical condition while the driver responsible fled the scene.

It is believed the driver of a Volvo skipped the traffic light intersection of Johan Jonker Drive and Albertina Sisulu Road (Main Reef Road) where he collided with a motorcycle on 25 July.

Due to the impact of the accident, the motorcycle was dragged with the vehicle and later removed by bystanders before the driver decided to flee the scene.

Bystanders along with members from the Sector 4 Community Policing Forum (CPF)  and Sector 5 followed the driver to his Krugersdorp West home.

The patrollers managed to apprehend the driver and escorted him back to the accident scene where he was placed in police custody and arrested at the Krugersdorp police station.

He is due to make an appearance in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court later today.

The members of the CPF assisted in controlling the accident scene and in the late night traffic flow.

The driver of the motorcycle sustained serious injuries during the accident and was airlifted to Baragwanath Hospital for further medical treatment.
