Man shot after refusing orders from attackers

Four shots fired sent local CPF members on a manhunt.

Late last night (14 June) a man was shot and killed after refusing to adhere to four attackers’ demands.

It is alleged that four staff members of the Banjaara Restaurant in Key West Shopping Centre were walking home in Cecil Knight Street in Rant-en-Dal when they were approached by men in a suspicious vehicle.

According to the spokesperson of Sector 3’s Community Policing Forum (CPF) Lourens Maritz, a maroon VW Polo with an Eastern Cape registration was parked in Hugo Street with its hazards on.

“Two suspects then climbed out of the Polo and fired a warning shot, ordering them to put their hands in the air and hand over their belongings. After the shot was fired one of the staff members got a fright and tried to flee the scene. One of the two suspects chased after him, hitting him on the head with his gun. A struggle ensued resulting in the suspect shooting the man.”

The suspects then fled the scene and the Sector 3, 4 and 5 CPF patrollers went searching for them.

Netcare 911 was called to the scene where the gunshot victim, believed to have been a waiter at the restaurant, was pronounced dead.

EPR security along with the local police also were called to the scene.

CPF secured the scene and waited for the forensics team along with the mortuary vehicle to remove the body from the scene around 1am this morning.

The patrolling CPF members had been on the hunt for the suspects until the early morning hours when they allegedly lost their trail on the Tarlton road.

The News is awaiting official police comment regarding the shooting.
