In a secretive operation Krugersdorp police managed to make five arrests in connection with illegal mining.
At about 5pm on Thursday 21 May, police together with mining security and the Department of Home Affairs went to the Makhulu Gama informal settlement in Krugersdorp as part of operation Fiela.
“We confiscated equipment that is being used for illegal mining activities and arrested five suspects,” he said.
The suspects are due to make a brief appearance in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court soon.
