Hit-and-run suspect appears in court

The complainant told police his girlfriend was seriously injured after being hit by a car that sped away

A 38-year-old hit-and-run suspect was apprehended by the Kagiso police.

Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya, a police spokesperson said they received information regarding an accident where they found the complainant who told police that his girlfriend was seriously injured after being hit by a car that sped away.

“He gave the description of the car to the police and the police accompanied him to the hospital to interview his injured girlfriend. As they were on their way to the hospital, the complainant noticed the implicated car parked at a certain yard.”

Sibiya said the police entered the house and met a man who admitted that the car was his but he was not driving it during the accident.

“The man told the police that it was his friend who was driving the car. His friend was approached and he admitted to driving the car but told the police that he was not aware that he bumped someone.”

Police arrested the suspect who made a brief appearance in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court for reckless and negligent driving.
