Truck ploughs through Correctional Services

Information indicates that eight people were injured during an accident on the R24 this afternoon involving two vehicles and a truck.

Eight people allegedly have been injured in an accident on the R24 this afternoon 13 March involving two motor vehicles and a truck.

Several emergency services such as the Krugersdorp Fire Department, QRS and ER24 quickly rushed to the scene where a truck crashed right into the home of Virginia Amod, a warden of the Krugersdorp Correctional Services who lives with her family on the property.

It is still unclear what exactly happened, but it seems that two other vehicles collided with the truck.

According to Linda Jacobs from the Correctional Services, this is the first serious accident in a while.

Stumps have been put up alongside the Correctional Services’ property in a bid to stop vehicles from crashing into their buildings, some of which are known to be historical. All eight these stumps have to be replaced.

The two drivers of the truck and four occupants of the two vehicles was taken to hospital.

Amod told the News that she was still at work when she got the news from a friend that a truck ploughed through her bedroom, causing serious damage to the structure of her home. The damage included her television set, amongst other things.

“At that time when I got the call I wasn’t sure if it is my house and informed my colleagues about the incident, letting them know what had happened.”

She said she is just thankful that her child or any of her family members was not at home during the incident.

“I really hope that something will be done as vehicles are rushing down this road,” she said.

Her bedroom is metres from the R24 road. Alternative accomodation for Amod and her family have been arranged for tonight. They will be relocating to another home on the premises so that reparations can be done.

“I’m still traumatised by the incident and all shaky,” she concluded.

Police were on the scene and will investigate the matter.
