Local musician narrowly escapes hijacking

A local musician nearly becomes a victim of the crime in Mindalore.

The new kids on the Community Policing Forum (CPF) block of Sector 9 warns the community of an increase in crime following yet another attempted hijacking in Mindalore.

Since the beginning of the year there has been a number of attempted hijackings which took place in both the Mindalore and Lewisham areas.

The News has reported on numerous hijackings, one being a girl who was hijacked after she was found sleeping in her car and the other of a Opel Corsa at the post office.

The latest incident took place on 1 March at 2am, when a local upcoming musician was nearly hijacked on his way home from a gig.

It has been reported that a VW Caddy bakkie with two suspects were spotted as they approached the musician known as Rockstarr who was busy trying to enter his property.

The musician then drove past and lost the suspects as they fled when they saw the CPF patrol vehicle driving down Exchange Road.

CPF members told the News that the suspects had quickly disappeared into a side street entering Witpoortjie.

The community is urged to take extra caution when entering their homes, especially late at night. It is important to stick to the main roads where there is light and avoid crime hot spots.

“Always be alert when traveling in your vehicle as hijackers could strike at any given time. Make use of your rare view mirror to be on the lookout for any suspicious activity around you,” says Andre Rossouw, from the CPF Sector 9.
