Visions gymnasts keep pocketing medals

Two gymnasts from Krugersdorp made South Africa and their club proud.

Two Krugersdorp gymnasts from Visions Gymnastics Club recently competed successfully at the Serbian Invitational.

There Riccardo Colandrea and Juan Crous had to make sure their hard training sessions and flexibility would help them through as they competed against teams from all over Europe. This competition is known as an immense stepping stone to future international success.

Their coach, Waldo Cottle accompanied them to the competition and according to him the two gymnasts did exceptionally well.

Juan achieved 10th place overall in his age group while Riccardo achieved a third place overall and also two first, two second and one third place respectively in different categories, pocketing a total of six medals.

In the senior and junior girls section Beate Malan and Gabriella Colandrea had some great achievements.

Gabriella’s achievement is even more special considering she dislocated her big toe on the first apparatus. She had it relocated and strapped before she went on to win medals and help the South African junior girls’ team win the coveted first place.

In the boys Zone 6 section pre-junior, Ruan Lange, Joshua da Silva and Tjaart Visagie made their coach Maxwell Dube very happy with their performance as they bagged 11 medals – four gold, six silver and one bronze.

In the junior section Kean Myburgh managed to take home six medals for his club – two gold, two silver and two bronze.

Head coach Derick Scholtz said he is very proud of all their gymnasts’ achievements and they cannot wait to continue their winning spirit when they send a team to Slovenia at the end of March.
