Key West car thieves caught

A group of suspects were arrested after guards at Key West Shopping Centre decided to stop them at the boom gate.

A group of alleged car thieves who has been targeting a local shopping mall, was taken into police custody on Monday, 16 February.

It is believed that the group was traveling in a blue VW Polo when they were stopped at the boom gates at one of Key West Shopping Centre’s covered parking lots late last night.

Fidelity security guards on site allegedly spotted the vehicle with the suspects in and stopped them at the gate.

Following their intuition, the guards, who have been on the lookout for the vehicle and its occupants, decided to stop and search the Polo.

The security guards then found weapons used by the suspects to break into vehicles.

The Krugersdorp police was notified about the incident who responded to the call-out.

CCTV footage was presented to the police which led to the positive identification of the suspects who had been targeting the mall for some time now.

The News is still awaiting comment from Key West’s management regarding the arrests.
