No response from Fire Department

How can the Fire Department provide live-saving services with no fire trucks?

The news received an anonymous call about the Krugersdorp Fire Department allegedly not having an operational fire truck.

This allegation follows many other concerned Krugersdorp residents’ complaints.

The news tried to contact the station commander for comment several times, but with no success.

Earlier this week the news paid a visit to the historic building that houses the Fire Department and was shocked to see the state it was in.

Every staff member on duty that day told the news they are not allowed to talk to the media.

Approaching what looked like a control room, the news found a handful of staff members paging through magazines; one person even was taking a mid-morning snooze.

In addition, the news still is awaiting official comment from the station commander regarding an incident in which a bakkie had caught fire on the R28 on 5 February.

When phoning the fire station in Commissioner Street the phone simply rings.

The news contacted the West Rand District Municipality’s secretary to the Executive Manager of Public Safety to inquire about who the right person is to talk to for comment.

No response has been received yet.

Furthermore, it is alleged the station is short of vehicles as they cover the whole of the West Rand along with its surrounding areas.

The news will follow up on the matter.
