Motocross heroes on local turf

Top 18 ranking Pro Mini riders in the 2014 motocross season will get hands-on advice from some of the country’s best at Red Bull My Track.

The aptly named Red Bull My Track events will see three national motocross champions Kerim Fitz-Gerald, Anthony Raynard and Bradley Cox take participants through their approach to attacking berms, table tops and the like at their favourite local track.

The first event kicks off on 8 November at the Dirt Bronco track in Krugersdorp, which is Fitz-Gerald’s local track.

Having just won his fifth professional national title in the MSA Motocross Championship in the highly competitive MX2 Class, Fitz-Gerald is excited about the prospect of talking to the country’s young motocross talent about what it takes to be a professional motocross athlete.

“I spent four seasons in Canada riding their national championship in the MX2 Class and gained a lot of experience so I’m really looking forward to sharing that and helping the riders get stronger. Locally the average age of athletes competing in the MX1 & MX2 classes is much higher than internationally,” says Fitz-Gerald.

On 8 November top 18 ranking Pro Mini (age 10-15) riders in the 2014 motocross season (around six athletes at each event) will get hands-on advice from some of the country’s best at Red Bull My Track.

The young guns also will receive media training on how to be in the public eye as well as some tips on how to keep the extensive whole-body fitness levels required of a motocross athlete.

With over 11 South African Professional National Motocross titles between Fitz-Gerald, Raynard and Cox, the 18 boys are bound to take a lot from the event to apply in the new season.

“I really think Red Bull My Track will help push our young talent to the next level.”
