Policing forum increases visibility

Signposts were erected all over Krugersdorp West.

Members of Krugersdorp’s CPF (Community Policing Forum) Sector 5 recently erected a number of signposts in Krugersdorp West.

They work in partnership with local police to ensure the safety of residents of the area.

“The signposts have all the relevant contact details of the CPF including email addresses and cellphone numbers to make the forum more accessible to the community,” explains public relations officer Loureen van Wyk.

Sector 5 covers six suburbs namely Boltonia, Delporton, Oatlands, Agavia, Burgershoop and West Village.

The contact details of the Sector 5 patrol vehicle are 071 675 7050 and 071 675 7049.

Some frequently asked questions about the CPF:

What does the CPF do?

Community policing is a police initiative and it is being used as a philosophy that guides police management styles and operational strategies. It emphasises the establishment of police-community partnerships and a problem-solving approach responsive to the needs of the community.

How can I join my CPF?

By visiting your nearest police station and asking to speak to the Community Policing Officer. He or she will give you the details of the chairperson and when CPF meetings take place. The chairperson will explain all the procedures on how to get involved.

Can I get involved in something other than my CPF?

Yes, it depends on your skills and time that you will dedicate to the CPF. There are many things you can help with in the police station, as well as finding other safety projects in your area. Your Sector Crime Forum (SCF), which is a localised subsidiary of the CPF is also a good place to get involved. Read our section on the CPF Partnership website for more ideas and links for ways to become involved.

What is a Youth Desk?

A Youth Desk is a crime prevention desk that deals with youth issues and helps the youth to engage with the police on how to report and prevent crime.

How do I join the Youth Desk?

You join the Youth Desk by going to your nearest police station and ask for the CPF office. They will put you in direct contact with the members of the Youth Desk.

Do I need any qualifications to join the CPF?

No, you just make time and dedicate it to fighting crime, thereby helping to create a safer community. You need to be voted in to join the executive section of the CPF and this will require a police profile check. The most important qualification for the CPF is enthusiasm.
